Methodist Girls’ School has stood at 11 Blackmore Drive since 1887, founded by Australian missionary Sophia Blackmore, one of Singapore’s oldest girls’ schools. It runs as a single school from Primary through Secondary, government-aided at the primary level and independent at the secondary level, with more than 2,600 students across both. MGS is affiliated to Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) and Anglo-Chinese Junior College, giving families a defined pathway through to junior college without a fresh secondary school application. How Competitive Is MGS, Really?

MGS balloted within Phase 2C for Singapore Citizens even at the 2km-and-beyond tier in 2024, and the school has run tight enough in recent years that living within 1km still means competing against other 1km families for the same handful of remaining seats. Treat it as a meaningful edge, not a lock.

If You Don’t Get In, or You Have a Son

MGS is girls-only, so for families with a son, the “within 1km” line on any Holland Link listing simply does not apply, and it is worth knowing that before buying on the strength of it alone.

Two credible alternatives sit in the same belt. Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary, at 7 Pei Wah Avenue in Bukit Timah, is co-ed and a Special Assistance Plan school with a strong bilingual programme. Its 2025 numbers ran 53 vacancies against 120 applicants in Phase 2A and 20 vacancies against 51 applicants in Phase 2B, competitive, but a real option regardless of a child’s gender. Henry Park Primary is the other established name in the same corridor, also consistently oversubscribed in recent years, and also worth registering distance-priority interest in if MGS does not work out.

When Can Amberwood Buyers Actually Register Using This Address?

MOE allows registration using a property still under construction, provided the vacant possession date, effectively the TOP, falls within 2 years of a child’s Primary 1 entry, and the family meets a 30-month residency requirement once moved in.

Amberwood at Holland’s confirmed TOP is 30 June 2030. Individual legal completion typically follows 6 to 12 months after TOP, which puts realistic move-in somewhere between late 2030 and mid-2031. Working from that timeline, the July 2031 registration exercise, for a child starting Primary 1 in January 2032, looks like the earliest practical window for most buyers. This is a reasoned estimate based on the purchase and completion timeline, not an MOE-confirmed date.
